All you need to know about Abdominoplasty Cosmetic Surgery

Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as ‘tummy tuck’, is a very common procedure for getting rid of sagging skin on the abdomen.

Many women opt for tummy tuck to remove the excess skin from their abdominal region and tighten the muscles of that region. However, this surgery tends to leave a permanent scar, though it can almost always be hidden below your bikini line.

In many cases, cosmetic surgeons also recommend cosmetic surgery procedures such as liposuction to remove the extra fat in your body and give it more desirable contours.

It’’s advisable to go in for tummy tuck only if you have lost weight, or are trying to remove the stretched skin post-pregnancy.

There are many different types of tummy tucks depending on your need. You have the choice of going in for a full tummy tuck procedure to eliminate excess skin, fat, and tighten the muscles of the abdominal region; or you can opt for a mini abdominoplasty that is similar to full tummy tuck except that it removes less fat, skin, and muscles.

Some women also like their belly button to be moved and opt for this cosmetic surgery procedure. Surgeons also conduct tummy tuck to just remove skin and fat, without touching the muscle.

Tummy Tuck Procedure

During tummy tuck surgery, a long incision is made from hipbone to hipbone just above the pubic region. The next incision is made to separate the belly button from the surrounding tissues.

Next, the surgeon separates the skin from the wall of the abdomen and lifts the skin flap to expose the vertical abdominal muscles to pull them together and stitch them properly so that they are bunched tighter.

Once the muscles are stitched together, the skin flap and fat is stretched towards the first incision and all extra tissue is eliminated. Finally, the incision is sutured after a new opening is made for the belly button.

Once everything is stitched back in place, the final appearance is of a flatter, smoother, and more youthful looking abdomen.

The tummy tuck procedure takes between 2 and 5 hours and you may have to spend at least 1 to 2 days at the hospital, so that the surgeon can properly monitor your recovery process as well as ensure your body’’s proper functioning and comfort. You’’ll take around 1 to 2 weeks to recover from this surgery.
