Surgeon's comment
Patient has stretched and split earlobes after wearing heavy earrings. Most patients who have split earlobes tend to have slightly thin earlobes which are prone to tearing. Photograph taken immediately after surgery with the earlobe repaired with a absorbable stitches. Surgery performed under local anaesthetic and typically takes approximately 20 minutes. The small stitches remain following surgery but fall out and do not need to be removed. Replacing of re-piercing the earlobe is possible but we would recommend this not be performed for at least eight weeks following surgery. It is also important to avoid piercing directly over the scar has this is fragile tissue and may stretch.
