This is a surgery video of a breast capsulectomy. Our patient has developed a single capsule around one of her implants, and we can see it is quite out of shape, looking a bit like an egg. The tension the capsule is putting on the implant makes the breast move entirely from the base, which looks rather strange. She has come in for surgery as this will be very uncomfortable for her.
The breast will be cleaned out thoroughly befor ethe new implant is inserted as it is thought that capsules can be formed by a low grade bacterial infection.
We skip forward in the procedure to when the implant has been removed. We see the capsule as well as this has also been removed. This is called a total capsulectomy, where as a capsulotomy is where the capsule is released.
The rest of the procedure is skipped, and we see the final results. The breasts look symmetrical, and the replaced implant feels softer and has a more natural appearance. It was replaced with an implant of the same size and also a triple antibiotic solution was put in to ward off any bacteria that may have got in. She will also be given a course of antibiotics as a preventative measure to avoid getting another capsule.
