Should Liposuction be performed with Tummy Tuck surgery?

Many surgeons do perform liposuction with tummy tuck surgery. In our opinion this is safe – as long as the liposuction is not performed extensively to the upper tummy.

This is because this is the area through which the blood travels to the lower part of the tummy skin and liposuction can jeopardise this.

We occasionally perform liposuction to other areas such as the ‘love handles’, thighs and knee areas during tummy tuck surgery but generally advise against liposuction to the upper part of the tummy at the same time as surgery. This is because we have seen problems with wound healing and, in very severe cases, death.
