What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?
You’ve probably heard of a tummy tuck, which removes loose skin from the tummy area and tightens up the muscles underneath. But you may not know that there’s also a less invasive version of the procedure, called a mini tummy tuck.
Here’s a very quick guide to the procedure.
Who makes a good candidate for a Mini Tummy Tuck?
A mini tummy tuck (or mini abdominoplasty) is ideal if you are of relatively normal weight, with a little excess skin and stubborn fatty tissue that you’d like removed from the tummy area, but not enough to justify a full tummy tuck.
You can determine whether you’d be more suited to a mini or full tummy tuck by performing a simple pinch test on your tummy skin.
If you can pinch the skin around your tummy button down to the area around your pubic skin when you lean forward, you are probably a good candidate for a full tummy tuck. If the skin doesn’t stretch this far, you are probably better suited to a mini tummy tuck.
What happens in a Mini Tummy Tuck?
A mini tummy tuck is just like the name suggests – a tummy tuck in which less tissue is removed!
During the mini tummy tuck procedure, only about half of the skin between your tummy button and pubic area will be removed. The underlying muscles can also be repaired and stitched together if they have become separated.
The surgery takes about 1 and a half hours and, if required, can be combined with liposuction to your upper tummy to give you even more of an improvement.
The scars will be slightly smaller than for a full tummy tuck and because no incision is made around the tummy button, there will be no scar around it – unlike a full tummy tuck.
