Do your implants need replacing after a breast enlargement procedure? This is the question we have made a video response for as part of our breast enlargement FAQ series.

We believe you do need them replacing after a number of years, and we believe 15 years is around the time they will need replacing. This of course is if they don’t rupture or you develop capsular contracture. If this is the case then you will certainly need them replacing sooner than the 15 year mark. Despite our guideline of replacing the implants every 15 years, it is not essential. If you feel comfortable and happy with them, then there may not be a reason to have them replaced. Having said this, technology has advanced terrifically in the last 15 years, so implants are much better, and far more durable now. We feel that this alone would be a good enough reason to have them replaced, as the implants you will already have will probably be extremely dated. We have free annual follow ups even years after your original surgery, so you can have an expert surgical opinion on whether the implants should be replaced, or if they need to be replaced.
