How soon after Blepharoplasty (Eyelid) Surgery is it safe to fly?

Question:Your Questions Answered by the Surgeons at Aurora Clinics

Dear Aurora Clinics, I am interested in having upper eyelid correction. Could you tell me how many weeks after surgery I will need to wait before I can fly?

Answer:

Thank you very much for your enquiry. We generally recommend that you leave it at least three weeks following blepharoplasty surgery before flying.

The reason for this is because we like to keep patients close to us during their early post-operative period so as if they do have any concerns, we can treat them promptly.

The other slight risk is that both surgery and flights can increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the legs). For this reason, if you do have your eyelids corrected on general anaesthetic, we would advise that you do not fly for three weeks following surgery. If you do fly, you should wear support socks which limit the risk of blood clots developing in your legs on/during a flight.

If you would like to schedule a consultation to decide if this type of surgery would be appropriate for you, please do not hesitate to phone us on 01324 578290 or email us at mailto:info@aurora-clinics.co.uk.

Best Wishes,
